The joy of taking part in the SCO Christmas contest
Publication Date: 2011-11-11
As school children across the country get creative, following the launch of the SCO’s Christmas art and poetry contest, a teacher from one of the schools that enjoyed success in last year’s competition has spoken about the importance of pupils understanding the real meaning of Christmas.
Elizabeth McMahon, principal teacher at Our Lady and St Francis Primary School, Carfin, spoke of the forthcoming festive period. “As part of our preparations for Christmas, staff and pupils in Our Lady and St Francis Primary, Carfin, work hard to ensure that the real meaning of Christmas is celebrated within our school and community,” she said.
Martin Harvey (above), a primary seven pupil from Our Lady and St Francis last year who now attends Taylor High School in Motherwell, was among the winners in the primary schools’ section of the SCO’s Christmas poetry and art competition.
“Pupils have the opportunity to showcase their learning in a variety of ways,” Ms McMahon said. “They particularly enjoy expressing their ideas, thoughts and feelings about the birth of Jesus in their expressive arts.
“Once again we are looking forward to entering the SCO’s annual art and poetry competition.”
