Archbishop Tartaglia returns home after heart attack
Archbishop of Glasgow flies back from retreat in Spain with brother bishops
Archbishop Philip Tartaglia of Glasgow arrived home last night after recovering sufficiently from a heart attack in Spain to travel.
He was in Spain,with members of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland for their annual in-service week at the Scots College in Salamanca when he was taken to hospital on Thursday night..
“The archbishop was able to travel with the other Scottish bishops as had been scheduled,” a spokesman for Archbishop Tartaglia (above) said. “It is expected that he will now undertake a period of convalescence.
“The archbishop wishes to thank the medical team of the University Hospital Salamanca for their care,” the spokesman said. “He also expresses his thanks to the Rector and staff of the Royal Scots College, to his fellow bishops, the Catholic community in Scotland, and all who have prayed for him and expressed their good wishes.
“He is grateful to the First Minister for her good wishes and to [the] Rt Rev John Chalmers, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, for the prayerful good wishes of the Church of Scotland. He also extends his thanks to everyone who offered prayers and good wishes by text, email or twitter. The archbishop is humbled and deeply grateful.
