Faiths called to pray in Scotland for peace

Cardinal Keith O’Brien invites Scotland's religious leaders and faith groups to pray for peace tomorrow ahead of Assisi pilgrimage with Holy Father
Cardinal Keith O’Brien has invited the religious leaders of Scotland and representatives of faith communities in the country to come together to pray for peace in the world, each in their own way and according to their own tradition.
Tomorrow’s event, ahead of the Holy Father’s Assisi pilgrimage for peace on Thursday, takes place in the Lauriston Jesuit Centre in Edinburgh at 6.30 pm.
Representatives from the Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Baha’i and Sikh faiths will take part as well as Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow, the Moderator of the Church of Scotland and the Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church.
Pope Benedict’s Assisi event marks the 25th anniversary of the historic meeting of world religious leaders called by Pope John Paul II when he said: ‘Either we learn to walk together in peace and harmony or we drift apart and ruin ourselves and others.’
Such prayer meetings need to be organized in major cities around the world and not be a one off event. What better way to learn from each other than to gather in such meetings. Peace…
