Charitable endeavours has Red Cross singing the praises of Lourdes Primary
Pupils from Lourdes Primary School, in Glasgow, last week handed a cheque for £1000 to the British Red Cross, after deciding they wanted to play their part in helping victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Primaries 4A and 4B at Lourdes had been undertaking a project on Japan when they heard of the devastating natural disaster, which led to thousands of people losing their lives, while many more thousands saw their homes and possessions swept away.
The Lourdes children immediately ‘felt compelled to help out’ and decided to stage a sponsored singathon, which took place at the school on Friday March 18.
Maureen Simpson, Lourdes headteacher, confirmed that
the pupils’ singathon had raised a total of £1000, which, after contacting the Japanese Embassy, was to be sent to the British Red Cross, which helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are across the world.
Representatives from the charity visited Lourdes Primary School last week and, as well as happily posing with pupils presenting the cheque, spent time speaking to pupils in classroom-based workshops about the charity’s work.
