7-CARDINAL-NEWMAN

Bishop Toal blesses new oratory at Cardinal Newman High

Cardinal Newman High in Bellshill strengthened their school’s Faith provision last week as Bishop Joseph Toal of Motherwell Diocese opened and blessed their new oratory.

On Wednesday February 7, Bishop Toal was joined by pupil representatives of each year group, parents, local clergy and councillors for the opening of the oratory.

For many of those present, it was also their first opportunity to view the school’s two new stained-glass windows, which were commissioned as part of Cardinal Newman’s 40th anniversary year.

Pauline Barr, principal teacher of RE at the school, said: “I am very much looking forward to using the oratory as part of our learning experiences within RE and also having a beautiful sacred space in the school in which staff and pupils can come together for Mass and other events throughout the school year.

“It will certainly enhance the liturgical and Sacramental life of the school community.

“The windows were created by Stephen Weir and special thanks go to Kevin Marshall of Braid Wines & Aktar Supplies and St Joseph’s parish in Stepps for the donation of a new altar. We are very grateful for the support received in creating our new oratory.”
