First national youth pilgrimage is in honour of St Margaret
Catholic Youth Service Scotland (CYSS) will hold their first National Youth Pilgrimage in Dunfermline this September in honour of St Margaret of Scotland
Archbishop Leo Cushley of St Andrews and Edinburgh, the newly appointed president of CYSS, is said to be very keen to revive pilgrimage and interest in ‘our own’ saints in Scotland, among people of all ages and especially among young people who may never have had the experience.
The pilgrimage will take place on Sunday September 21, and will begin at 1.30pm, when each diocesan group will visit and pray at one of the pilgrimage ‘stations’—the Cave, Dunfermline Abbey, St Margaret’s Tomb and her Reliquary at the parish church.
Archbishop Cushley and other bishops and priests will celebrate Mass at St Margaret’s Church at 4pm that day.
The pilgrimage is open to young people up to 25 years and families and school groups are welcome too.
CYSS said they are hoping to have a a good turnout—and representatives from all parts of Scotland—on the day and that a ‘National Youth Pilgrimage will become an Annual event in the CYSS and Scottish Catholic calendar.’
Catholic Youth Service Scotland is a committee of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland and seeks to help young people develop their full potential in the Church and nurture their spirituality.
