SSPX concept of tradition has more to do with the some medieval barnacles on the bark of Peter, rather than what has been handed down by the Fathers. Tradition is not an isolated event in the 16th century. And tradition does grow and develop and admit diversity. I personally like the 1970 Liturgy, preferably in Latin and enjoy dialoguing with those not in full communion with the See of Rome.
Dear Mr McGhee
Out of charity, respect your views but out of justice I would like to point out that the rise in attendance at what is generally referred to as a traditional Mass has been the rise in abuses of the sacarment in Churches in general. This should not scandelize you since the fact has been noted in many ways by the Vatican. The Church is capable of embracing a diversity of rites and has done so by noting that the earlier forms are quite acceptable and should be made available to those who ask for it – just like receiving Communion on the tongue is a matter of personal choice.
I do not attend Masses offered according to traditional forms but I would not have a problem with anyone else doing so and I would attend them if they were the only alternative to invalid forms.
Best Wishes
Olga
