New apostolic exhortation to be presented next week
A new apostolic exhortation from Pope Francis on the subject of holiness will be issued next Monday, April 9.
A statement from the Holy See press office said that the document, titled Gaudete et Exsultate (rejoice and be glad) with the subtitle ‘On the call to holiness in the contemporary world,’ will be presented at the press office during a conference at 12pm on Monday.
An apostolic exhortation is regarded as the second-highest form of papal teaching, behind an encyclical letter.
Since becoming Pope in 2013, the Holy Father has released two papal encylicals: Lumen Fidei which was started by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, and Laudato Si’, which looked at environmental issues.
His five-year papacy has also seen him release two other apostolic exhortations during that time: 2013’s Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) and 2016’s Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love).
Bishop Angelo De Donatis, vicar general for the Diocese of Rome, Italian journalist Gianni Valente and former president of Catholic Action Italy Paola Bignardi are due to speak at next week’s presentation.
