6-DUNDEE

St Ninian to be honoured with new Dundee pilgrimage

Catholics are being invited to join in a unique Dundonian pilgrimage, in honour of one of Scotland’s early Christian saints.

The Confraternity of St Ninian have extended a welcome for individuals to join them on their 2017 pilgrimage to Dundee, in hour of the group’s patron saint.

Beginning at 9.30am on September 16, the pilgrimage will start with a Holy Hour at which the Sacrament of Confession will be made available, at Our Lady of the Victories Church in Dundee.

The pilgrimages will then begin their procession at 10.45am until 11.45am, where they will journey on foot throughout Dundee, on a route which includes Dundee city centre and Dundee Law, before the celebration of Sung Holy Mass in honour of St Ninian at St Joseph’s Chapel, Lawside Convent.

The group will then enjoy lunch together at 1.30pm, where food contributions are most welcome, after which the Confraternity will host their annual general meeting at 2pm.

All are invited to take part in the day’s events, with those who are members of the Confraternity of St Ninian encouraged to bring along family and friends for the occasion.

Those wishing to take part are asked to RSVP in order to ensure there is enough food available for lunch, and are encouraged to bring any sacred banners that they wish to use during the pilgrimage through Dundee.

There is no cost to those wishing to take part, but participants are asked to consider making a donation to the Confraternity in order to lower the costs.

The Confraternity, which was established in May this year, hosts a programme of pilgrimages across the country throughout the year, with its purpose being to promote the re-conversion of Scotland to the Catholic Faith by way of pilgrimages, that incorporate Mass celebrated in Extraordinary Form, as well as traditional devotions.

Membership is open to all those who support the objectives of the group, even if they are unable to participate in the pilgrimages themselves.

Membership costs £10 a year for an individual or £25 for a family, and application forms are available by emailing: [email protected].
