As part of the campaign parishioners were encouraged to exercise moderation in terms of the giving of material gifts and were asked to ‘buy a blanket’ for an orphaned child in Malawi as a gift to give to their family and friends.

On the last Sunday of Advent a cheque for £3000 was presented to John Fox, who, along with his wife Jacqueline, runs the Eva Demaya Clinic in Malawi.

The Yoker parishioners were made aware of the cold nights endured by the many people of northern Malawi throughout several months of the year. Few people in this area can afford blankets and many people sleep next to a fire. This presents many dangers in itself and many children incur painful burns, which can lead to inflammation and, in some cases, become life threatening.

Blankets are given to orphans whose carers cannot afford to buy them and the parishioners of St Brendan’s hope that the £3000 raised by their project will save the lives of many orphaned children.
