European Catholic Church media officers meet in Glasgow
Catholic Church media officers from across Europe are meeting in Glasgow this week to discuss 'communicating a Christian message in increasingly secular societies.'
Glasgow will host the annual meeting of media officers and spokespersons of the Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE) from November 16-19. This is the first time the gathering has been held in Scotland.
The delegates will today, November 17, be joined by European bishops responsible for communication including Bishop José Ignacio Munilla Aguirre, Bishop of San Sebastián, Spain, and the president of the CCEE Commission on Social Communications (above).
“On behalf of the Bishops Conference of Scotland and of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, I extend a warm welcome to Glasgow, my home town, and to Scotland, to the Annual Conference of the Media Officers and Spokespersons of the European Bishops’ Conferences,” Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, president of the Scottish Bishops’ Conference, said. “The theme of this meeting, ‘Communicating the Christian message where commonly shared values are lacking,’ is a well-chosen and timely thematic for our times and for our situation in Scotland and in Europe.”
Peter Kearney, director of the Catholic Media Office, said: “We are delighted to be able to host this important meeting in Scotland as we consider one of the greatest challenges we all face—how to communicate the Christian message to increasingly secular societies.
“This is a challenge we share with all of our colleagues across Europe, in many ways, it is made more difficult by the fact that for most of its history, Europe was the heart of Christendom.”
