Catholic teachers attend ‘teaching Oscars’

Danielle Timmons from St Vincent's Primary School in East Kilbride and Carol McManus from St Roch's Secondary School, Glasgow nominated for prestigious prizes

Congratulations to two Scottish Catholic teachers who attended Britain’s Classroom Heroes ceremony on Sunday.

Danielle Timmons (above) from St Vincent’s Primary School in East Kilbride and Carol McManus from St Roch’s Secondary School, Glasgow, were at the glittering Pearson’s Teaching Awards ceremony, which will be broadcast on BBC2 next Sunday at 6pm, in London last night.

Despite missing out on a Gold Plato Award, the teachers picked up Silver awards earlier in the year, following on from their success at the Scottish Education Awards in June, were Danielle was named teacher of the year, and Carol honoured with the lifetime achievement award.

Speaking after her teacher of the year award in June, Danielle credited her win to her dedication to the job. “I’ve done the school choir for the last ten years, and have been doing a space and astronomy club this year, and I helped get our school into the final of the Rolls Royce science prize. And I try my hardest not to stay in my own classroom; I work with pupils across the school. They do genuinely inspire me and it’s because of them that I maybe do spend that extra time in work. It’s a great community here.”
