AGAP to make Edinburgh Fringe debut with two productions
The Archdiocese of Glasgow Arts Project (AGAP) is to bring two productions to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the first time.
The first is a brand new production written and directed by Stephen Callaghan (above) based upon the life of Venerable Margaret Sinclair. The Margaret Sinclair Story will be performed by AGAP actor turned professional actress, Mary Frances Jennow, in the church of St Patrick’s on Edinburgh’s High Street, in which Margaret’s body is interred (August 6-12). This will then be followed by a two night run of AGAP’s acclaimed production from this year’s Lentfest, Among Women (August 13-14) performed by the original cast also at St Patrick’s.
Mr Callaghan, AGAP director, said it was ‘really exciting.’
“It’s a new frontier to conquer,” he said. “With it being the tenth anniversary of AGAP October, it is great that we are still taking on new challenges.”
He added that The Margaret Sinclair Story, commissioned by St Andrews and Edinburgh Archdiocese, should be a very powerful performance.
“The fact it’s taking place in the Church she is interned in, really connects us to her I think,” he said. “And the lead actress, Mary Frances who has worked on many projects with AGAP and is now a professional actress will be really wonderful in the lead role.”
He said that he thought it was great the Church was getting involved in a secular arts event like the Fringe.
Tickets for both plays will be available from the Fringe Box Office.
