Catholic schools in West Lothian set to benefit from council funding
St Anthony’s Primary School in Armadale and St Nicholas Primary School in Broxburn to receive new classrooms and hall extensions as part of £4.7 million funding.
St Anthony’s Primary School in Armadale is one of a number of schools in West Lothian set to benefit from a £4.7 million investment programme.
Pupils from the school assisted Lawrence Fitzpatrick, the executive councillor for education, in launching the programme, with work set to start this summer on a hall and classroom extension, to be completed in 2016.
As part of the scheme, £400,000 will be invested over the summer in St Nicholas Primary School in Broxburn with a new classroom and hall extension due to be complete in August and November respectively.
Work is also ongoing in a number of other schools across the council area.
“Despite the financial constraints and a £29.554 million funding gap, West Lothian Council is committed to providing the best facilities possible for local communities,” Councillor Fitzpatrick said. “This summer an ambitious £4.7 million planned programme of maintenance and investment in our school estate will take place to ensure that our buildings are in good condition.
“The school summer holiday break is a perfect time to carry out a range of upgrades and improvement work on our buildings.”
It is expected that the vast majority of the improvement work will be finished by the start of term.
