Glasgow Phoenix Choir to perform at Carfin in aid of grotto
The Glasgow Phoenix Choir and guests will perform in concert at St Francis Xavier Church, Carfin, on June 12 with all proceeds going to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes (above).
The choir rose out of the ashes of the celebrated Glasgow Orpheus Choir and this year celebrates 114 years in existence—64 years as the Glasgow Phoenix Choir and 50 years as the Glasgow Orpheus Choir.
The choir is conducted by Marilyn J Smith MBE, assisted by Cameron Murdoch, accompanist and depute conductor, and performs more than 30 concerts per year in the UK and abroad.
Performing in aid of the grotto alongside the Glasgow Phoenix choir will be the Dublin Airport Singers. The Irish choir was founded in 1991 by musical director Tony Madden, who worked in Dublin Airport—the source of the choir’s name.
The Glasgow Phoenix Choir regularly raises money for churches and charities in Scotland and beyond, raising more than £1.5 million for many charities in the 64 years of its existence.
