SCIAF manager elected for Glasgow North
Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund congratulates Patrick Grady
SCIAF has congratulated one of its employees who has been elected to the House of Commons.
Patrick Grady, advocacy manager for the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund, has been elected as the SNP MP for Glasgow North, ousting Labour’s Ann McKechin.
Philippa Bonella, SCIAF’s head of communications and education, said ‘SCIAF congratulates Patrick on his election to serve Glasgow North.’
“He has been a valued and committed colleague and we know he will serve his constituency well,” she said. “SCIAF volunteers and staff will be down to lobby him and his fellow MPs in Westminster on June 17, so we’ll see him again soon!”
Mr Grady said: “It is the greatest honour to be the first SNP Member of Parliament ever elected in Glasgow in a general election.”
The new Glasgow North MP is one of a number of new SNP Catholic MPs who have been elected in Scotland in this ballot. Carol Monaghan, who was elected for Glasgow North West, is a teacher noted for her pro-life stance. Mhairi Black, elected for Paisley South and Renfrewshire South, and Natalie McGarry, elected for Glasgow East, said they were Catholics during the campaign.
A number of prominent Scottish Catholic politicians also lost their seats, including Tom Clarke and Jim Murphy of the Labour Party.
