11-ARCHBISHOP-TARTAGLIA

Prayers for Archbishop Tartaglia

Archbishop Philip Tartaglia of Glasgow was admitted to hospital in Salamanca, Spain, last night after having a heart attack.

The Scottish bishops were in Spain for their annual in-service week at the Scots College in Salamanca.

The spokesman for the archdiocese said the archbishop was conscious today and in good spirits, and had been visited by other Scots bishops attending the meeting.

“The archbishop will remain in hospital in Spain until he is well enough to return home,” he said. “Further medical updates will be released if any change in the archbishop’s condition takes place.”

Catholic parishes in the Glasgow Archdiocese have been informed of the archbishop’s illness and special prayers will be said this weekend throughout the archdiocese for his recovery.

Archbishop Cushley of St Andrews and Edinburgh said: “Please pray for Archbishop Tartaglia’s health as he undergoes tests following a heart attack. Our Lady, Health of the Sick, pray for him.”
