Police have launched a hate crime investigation after loyalist graffiti was spray-painted on the walls of a Catholic school.

Two figures were caught on CCTV at 9:45pm on Sunday entering the grounds of Trinity High, Renfrew, and painting ‘UVF’ on the school’s wall, the acronym for the Ulster Volunteer Force, the loyalist paramilitary group responsible for a number of sectarian murders.

Staff contacted police who have launched an investigation and are treating the incident as a hate crime.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police received a call at 9.45pm on Sunday November 23 reporting an incident of graffiti at a school in Renfrew. Inquiries are being made locally into the incident.”
