Prayer vigil for Scotland’s future

Tyburn Benedictine Convent to hold evening of prayer through the night on last Friday before the independence referendum

As the independence referendum approaches, one Ayrshire convent is offering stressed-out voters the opportunity to take a break from the political arguments and pray for Scotland’s future.

On September 12, the last Friday before the referendum, the Tyburn Benedictine Convent, Largs, will hold an all night Vigil of Eucharistic Adoration beginning at 8pm. Fr John Sweeney will be present at the vigil and will celebrate Mass in the morning.

September 12 is also the day when the Tyburn Sisters celebrate the Baptism of their Mother founders.

The vigil is for men only, as this is the Benedictine Rule for all night vigils. There are all night vigils for women on a monthly basis, and anyone wishing for information on these vigils should contact organisers.

The Tyburn Sisters are hoping to have an idea of numbers attending before the vigil takes place and advise those planning on making the trip to bring some warm clothes and sandwiches to help get through the night.
