Renowned US priest to speak in St Andrews and Edinburgh Archdiocese
Fr James Clarke’s May lecture at the Gillis Centre—on his work as a spirituality director and retreat giver—is open to all
Edinburgh’s Gillis Centre will play host this week to a talk from US priest and spiritual director who has been touring the UK.
Fr James Clarke (above), director of spiritual formation and assistant professor of spirituality at St John’s Seminary in California, will speak to Scottish Catholics about his work in a two-hour key note conversation entitled Leaning on Christ to Stand Tall.
St Andrews and Edinburgh Archdiocese has put out an open invitation to those both within and outwith the archdiocese, saying the event will be ‘an opportunity for all those who are engaged in service in their parish communities to be given some spiritual input for themselves.’
With an extensive academic background in the fields of spirituality, adult education and counselling, Fr Clarke chairs the Spirituality Commission of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and is spiritual director at the Cardinal Manning House of Prayer for Priests. He was ordained to the priesthood in May 1981, receiving his training in spiritual direction from Pecos Benedictine School of Spiritual Direction. His recently published book, Creating Rituals: A New Way of Everyday Healing, aims to enhance his continuing public ministry of retreats, workshops, and conferences throughout the US and internationally for priests, women religious, seminarians, and parish and school staff.
—The lecture will take place from 7-9pm on Thursday May 22 in The Gillis Centre, 100 Strathearn Road, Edinburgh. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register in advance as turnout is expected to be large. Contact Patricia Carroll at [email protected] or on 0131 623 8942.
