Some of the Catholic events taking place in Scotland in the coming week: Holy Week April 12-18

Saturday April 12

Bread Broken & Shared. A Lent day which looks ahead to Holy Thursday, a day to celebrate the Bread of Life by making bread and reflecting together. The Ignatian Spirituality Centre, 35 Scott Street, Glasgow, G3 6PE. For details contact us on 0141 354 0077 or email [email protected]

Newmains Lent Saturdays. 11am-3.30pm. The Pastoral Centre will be open with a full spiritual programme: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament 11am-3pm; Confession/Reconciliation 11am-12 noon; Angelus and Rosary at 12 noon; Led Holy Half-hour at 1pm; Stations of the Cross at 3pm; tea/coffee and home baking throughout the day; stall/repository selling religious goods; bookshop; lent crafts for children. All visitors most welcome. Newmains Pastoral Centre, 50 Bonkle Road, Newmains, Wishaw.

Livingston Lenten Walk of Witness. Starting from St Peter’s at 10.30am then walking through Livingston to other churches before ending at St Philip’s at 1.20pm approx. All able walkers welcome.

Easter Witness for Peace. 12 noon. An Interdenominational Meeting with short act of Worship at Faslane North Gate on A814, six miles north of Helensburgh. This is an opportunity to witness to our common faith in Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and to underline our belief that nuclear weapons are immoral and should not be maintained. Archbishop Tartaglia will take part in service.

Sunday April 13

Palm Sunday Lunch. The 10.30 Service on Palm Sunday will be followed by a Congregational ‘Bring and Share’ lunch in the refurbished Walpole Hall, St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh, to which everyone is invited.

Dundee Passion Play. 3pm-4pm in the grounds of Wellburn Home, Liff Road, Dundee. £5 per adult and children free. All proceeds go towards the upkeep of Wellburn Home. All welcome.

Monday April 14

Reflections on the Divine Office. 7.30pm – Turnbull Hall, Catholic Chaplaincy, Southpark Avenue, Glasgow. An atmospheric rendition of the poetry cycle by Anne Murray with music by violinist Anne Morgan. Concluding with Night Prayer of the Church. Entry free. A collection will be taken up to enable voluntary donations

St Augustine’s Choir, Coatbridge, Choral Reflection for the Season of Lent. A mix of traditional and contemporary choral music and hymns, with readings. This year, we’ll be joined by young musicians from the parish who will perform their own pieces, so it will add an extra special dimension to the event. 7:30pm, in St Augustine’s Church. Dundyvan Rd, Coatbridge, opposite The Time Capsule. The concert is free, and will be followed by light refreshments

Tuesday April 15

Youth Symphony Orchestra in association with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and West Lothian Council. 7.30pm – University of Glasgow Memorial Chapel (Main Building). A vibrant 75-piece Youth Symphony Orchestra from Hochsauerlandkreis in Germany. This area is twinned with West Lothian in Scotland and this is the second visit to Scotland by this talented musical organisation. Featuring works by Bach, Respighi, Mozart, Mendelssohn. Suggested donation £5

Friday April 18

Walk of the Cross. You are invited to take part in a silent Walk of the Cross Starting at St Mary’s Cathedral Huntly St at 6am. The cross will be carried in procession to Kincorth Hill for a short act of devotion followed by tea and coffee in Our Lady of Aberdeen Church

Good Friday Walk. Will commence at St. Vincent’s Church, East Kilbride at 9:00am. Calling at Our Lady of Lourdes, The Columbian Sisters, St. Bride’s and finally St. Leonard’s at approx. 12:00pm where tea/coffee will be served.
