Fiftieth birthday celebrations for Galloway school
St Columba's community looks forward to welcoming Bishop Cunningham for golden jubilee Mass next month
The community of St Columba’s Primary School in Annan is finalising preparations for its golden jubilee next month.
Bishop John Cunningham of Galloway (above) will mark the special occasion by celebrating Mass with diocesan clergy at Annan’s St Columba’s Church on the evening of Monday September 17.
Staff, pupils, parents and friends of the school have celebrated its 50th birthday in a number of ways throughout the year, however, next month’s Mass with the bishop will be the highlight of the celebrations, according to Barry McIntyre, St Columba’s headteacher.
“We are very much looking forward to this opportunity to celebrate Catholic education within Annandale,” Mr McIntyre said. “We are a proud school community and are grateful to those who have contributed in various ways to the school over the last 50 years.”
Mr McIntyre is hopeful that as many former pupils and staff of the school as possible will join them for the celebrations. Following the anniversary Mass, which will begin at 6.30pm, there will be an exhibition at the primary school. A commemorative film, showing the life of the school over its 50 years, has been created by P6/7 pupils and will also be shown on the evening.
