London Catholics prepare for prayer marathon
Faithful urged to come together and 'discover God's thoughts about yourself'
As the 2012 London Olympic Games near their conclusion, Catholics in the city are preparing to run a marathon of their own.
A 24-hour prayer marathon for the whole world will commence tomorrow evening at 7pm at Our Lady of La Salette and St Joseph Church in Westminster Diocese.
Organised by the Slovak Catholic Mission in London, together with English parishes, the prayer marathon will take the form on a day and night of contemplation and prayers for world peace and other intentions.
The event’s organisers have issued a welcoming text outlining that the aim of the prayer marathon is ‘to discover God’s thoughts about yourself.’
“The number of thoughts God gives you outnumbers the grains of sand on the seashore,” the welcoming text says.
“He ceaselessly thinks about you because He has created you, He rejoices in you and has a very special plan with you. In creating you He designed every detail of your body, determined your natural talents and uniqueness of your personality and He has given a purpose to your life. Just as an inventor knows his new gadget in detail and knows exactly what the gadget will be used for, so does God know everything about you. And just as an inventor takes pleasure in his invention and thinks day and night about how to improve it to make a better use of it, so does God think about us.
“By joining this marathon, you are accepting God’s invitation to get to know Him and through knowing Him, your Creator, to get to know yourself. So, do not hesitate a minute longer and try to discover how much God loves you and how wonderfully He thinks about you.”
The 24-hour prayer marathon will take place from 7pm tomorrow evening at Our Lady of La Salette and St Joseph’s Church, 14 Melior Street, London.
