Emotional send off for Holy Father
Pope Benedict has left Bellahouston Park after an extraordinary Mass there.
Scottish pilgrims have cheered the Pope on his way to England at the conclusion of his time in Scotland.
Pope Benedict presided over a reverent yet joyful Mass for a vast crowd in the park on Glasgow’s south side.
The Pope left the altar to huge cheers at the end of the Mass, but paused to give a blessing to nine year old Anton McManus who had written to him asking for help in helping his cancer remain in remission.
After the conclusion of Mass, Susan Boyle lead the congregation of 70’000 in a rousing version of the hymn, Make me a channel of your peace before the Pope was cheered from the park.
Even after the Holy Father had left the park thousands of pilgrims stayed to sing and wave their saltire and Vatican flags.
Hello from Australia.
Wonderful to read of such a great reception for the Holy Father in Scotland.
