Two new bishops join SCIAF board
Bishop Philip Tartaglia of Paisley and Bishop Joseph Toal of Argyll will work with Cardinal Keith O’Brien, Bishop Emeritus Peter Moran of Aberdeen and Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow on behalf of the Catholic charity
Bishop Philip Tartaglia of Paisley (above right) and Bishop Joseph Toal of Argyll and the Isles (above left), have been appointed as board members of the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF), an agency of the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland.
In their new positions, the bishops will work with SCIAF Chairman Cardinal Keith O’Brien, SCIAF President Bishop Emeritus Peter Moran of Aberdeen and Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow.
Cardinal O’Brien warmly welcomed the new board appointments.
“On behalf of the existing members of SCIAF’s board I would like to both congratulate Bishop Tartaglia and Bishop Toal in their recent appointments and also warmly welcome them to the team,” the cardinal said.
“I have no doubt that their deep faith and rich experience will benefit SCIAF greatly in its tireless mission to create a more just world for all.”
The new appointments follow a review by SCIAF’s board, which also decided that three suitably qualified lay people will also join the board in due course to broaden the range of skills and experience at the aid agency’s governance level.
The appointments come at a time of transition for SCIAF, which has is headquarters in Glasgow, as former SCIAF Chief Executive Paul Chitnis resigned last year and has not been replaced.
SCIAF president Bishop Emeritus Peter Moran recently retired from his role as Bishop of Aberdeen.
