Royal support for L’Arche appeal
HRH The Princess Royal attended a reception on Tuesday to mark the launch of a public Coming of Age Appeal for funds to help L’Arche Edinburgh build a new house for people with learning disabilities.
The Princess Royal is Royal Patron of L’Arche Edinburgh’s million pound appeal. Other patrons include Cardinal Keith O’Brien (above), Sir Tom Farmer, The Very Rev Dr Andrew McLellan, former Moderator of the Church of Scotland, Sally Magnusson, and the Right Rev Brian Smith, former Bishop of Edinburgh.
The new house, a specialist facility and the first of its kind in Edinburgh, will be designed to provide a home for life for people whose support needs are becoming increasingly complex as they age. L’Arche is an international learning disability organisation founded in France in 1964. L’Arche Edinburgh was set up 21 years ago and it has three small family style homes in Leith, the new house will be its fourth. L’Arche has nine UK communities, including those in Edinburgh and Inverness.
