Community mourns death of Catholic schoolboy

Jordan Grant, a student at Cardinal Newman College, Preston, suffered a a suspected cardiac arrest on Saturday morning on his way to start a new job

Friends and family expressed their shock over the death of a 17-year-old Catholic schoolboy who suffered a suspected cardiac arrest on Saturday morning.

Jordan Grant, a student at Cardinal Newman College in Preston, fell unconscious as he travelled with his father to his first ever supermarket shift and was unable to recover even despite treatment from Paramedics outside his home.

Jordan’s parents described their son as ‘caring, loyal, intelligent and talented’ and said could not understand how his death happened.

Jordan was studying A-levels at the time of his death and was an aspiring sports journalist who supported Preston North End football club and ran a website about American football with one of his friends.

Sid Hughes, principal at Cardinal Newman College, described Jordan as an ‘outstanding and popular student who had made his mark’ and added: “His loss is deeply felt by the staff and students of the college, and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family.”

Parishioners at Our Lady and St Edward’s Church in Fulwood also remembered Jordan and his family, including younger brother Lewis, 11, and Imogen, 5.

“Our thoughts are with the family and we will continue to pray for them and be as available as we can to support them,” parish priest Rev Robert Horn, said.

Jordan carried a donor card and this allowed for his organs and tissues to be donated to transplant patients.

“Some good has to come out of our loss somewhere,” his mother added.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be held today.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed.
