Campaigners against redefining marriage hand Holyrood 28,000 plus responses
Publication Date: 2011-12-09
Campaigners from the Catholic Parliamentary Office campaign have handed in more than 28,000 responses opposing the legalisation of same-sex ‘marriage’ before the Scottish Government’s consultation closes at midnight tonight.
In total the consultation has received more than 50,000 submissions, one of the largest responses every prompted by a Scottish Government consultation.
Of the more than 28,000 postcards handed over today, more than 4000 were from the Scottish Muslim community.
Yesterday a ‘rainbow coalition’ of same-sex ‘marriage’ campaigners handed over a mere 18,000 responses at Holyrood.
Police also had to separate them from a group protesting in defense of marriage organised by Donald Wilson, of the congregation of the Free Church of Scotland Continuing.
“Our mindset is whatever the government decides at the end of the day, it is not politicians in Parliament, judges or lawyers in court that determine what marriage is. It is God’s law and it has already been defined,” he said. “No one else has the right to redefine it when it’s clear it is between one man and one woman.”
