Largs parishioners welcome good news on new church hall
Parishioners of St Mary’s Church in Largs are delighted that planning permission for a new church hall is finally underway with North Ayrshire Council.
With all going well, construction of a new hall is expected to begin sometime in the New Year, but, as St Mary’s parish priest, Fr Eamonn Flynn, pointed out: “Now the hard work begins.”
The cost of a new church hall at St Mary’s is estimated to be in the region of £350,000.
Fr Flynn has the support of St Mary’s parishioners to help with raising the money and a fund raising group has already been established.
However, a sizeable loan will still be necessary, taken out over a number of years, to pay for the new hall.
Gerry Condron, a parishioner of St Mary’s, who was involved in the construction of the existing hall in 1980, spoke of the value a new hall will bring to St Mary’s and the local community.
“We really need a new hall as the existing structure is not fit for purpose and has to go,” Mr Condron said.
“The new hall will be an asset for many years to come, not only for parishioners of St Mary’s but also for the wider community of Largs.”
The fund raising drive begins this evening (Friday November 18) with a children’s talent show and more events are planned for future months.
