Scottish Catholics urged to take part in evangelisation efforts
Bishop Philip Tartaglia of Paisley asks Faithful to join in work ahead of next year’s synod
The Bishops’ Conference of Scotland has asked Catholic Faithful to become involved in preparations for next year’s Synod of Bishops on the subject of New Evangelisation.
Bishop Philip Tartaglia (above) of Paisley, who will represent the Scottish bishops at the synod, has called on individuals, schools and parishes to contribute to Scotland’s response to the preparatory document for the meeting, which will be sent to Rome later this year.
“The new evangelisation is primarily addressed to those who have drifted from the Church in traditionally Christian countries like ours,” Bishop Tartaglia said. “The aim of the synod will be to examine the present situation and discuss new methods and means for transmitting the Good News to people in our world today.”
The Paisley bishop added that the Scottish hierarchy were particularly keen for school pupils to contribute to the process.
Earlier this week, Pope Benedict XVI reminded the Catholic Faithful worldwide that evangelisation is a task for all members of the Church.
The Synod of Bishops will take place at the Vatican from October 7-28 next year.
